The People Behind the Power: Meet Christopher Lyons

Power is only as strong as the team behind it.

At GenServe, reliable backup power is made possible by the people who prepare, maintain, and support it every day. Our new employee spotlight series, The People Behind the Power, introduces the dedicated team members whose expertise and commitment help keep our customers ready when it matters most.

We’re kicking off the series with Christopher Lyons, who has spent most of his professional career at GenServe.

Christopher joined the company in 2001 and has spent the past 25 years growing alongside the organization. During that time, he has held several roles, including billing, service dispatch, and now service sales. Each position has given him a broader understanding of the backup power industry and what it takes to help customers stay powered and prepared.

Today, Christopher works as a Sales Manager out of GenServe’s Plainview, New York branch, serving customers throughout the Northeast.

“I enjoy sales the most because I’m constantly meeting new people, and no two days are the same,” Christopher says.

And no matter what the day brings, his approach is simple: get it done.

“No matter what the task is, I pride myself on ‘getting it done,’” he says.

Preparedness Starts Before the Power Goes Out

After more than two decades in the backup power industry, Christopher knows that the best time to find out whether a generator is ready is before an emergency happens.

That’s why he emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and testing when working with customers.

Testing equipment in a controlled environment gives technicians the opportunity to identify issues and make repairs under normal conditions. During an actual outage, the circumstances can be much more challenging, and the stakes much higher.

“The controlled setting allows you to make repairs in a reasonably calm setting,” Christopher explains. “Trying to make repairs in an emergency environment is extremely tough.”

It’s a simple principle that plays a major role in GenServe’s approach: be proactive today, so you’re ready when the unexpected happens.

A Reliable Back Up Plan for the Northeast

For the customers Christopher serves throughout the Northeast, reliable backup power can be especially important.

Extreme weather and periods of high demand can put additional pressure on the electrical grid. For organizations that depend on continuous power, a well-maintained backup power system provides another layer of preparedness.

As Christopher puts it, “It’s nice for our customers to know they have a reliable Plan B.”

Behind that Plan B is work most people will never see: ongoing maintenance, routine testing, and teams making sure equipment is ready long before an outage occurs.

Beyond GenServe

When Christopher isn’t helping customers prepare for the unexpected, much of his time is still spent around plenty of action.

He and his wife enjoy watching their three children compete in football, basketball, lacrosse, and competition dance. He’s also an avid sports fan himself, rooting for the New York Knicks, New York Giants, New York Mets, and St. John’s basketball.

And something his customers might not guess? He used to ride a motorcycle.

These days, you’re more likely to find him cheering from the sidelines or watching a game with family and friends.

GenServe’s Nationwide Growth

After 25 years, Christopher has had a unique perspective on just how much GenServe has changed.

“I’ve really enjoyed watching GenServe evolve over the years—from the Mom & Pop shop to the national powerhouse that we are today,” he says.

But even with that growth, what makes Christopher proudest is the people behind it.

“I’m extremely proud of the pride that our employees show on a daily basis,” he says. “All levels of employees seem to really care about our customers. The enthusiasm and energy are very contagious.”

That commitment is what turns backup power from a piece of equipment into something much bigger: confidence that when the power goes out, someone has already done the work to prepare for it.

Christopher’s career reflects that same commitment – 25 years of learning the business, building relationships, serving customers across the Northeast and, in his own words, getting it done.

Thank you, Christopher, for 25 years of dedication to GenServe, our customers and the mission of keeping critical power ready when it matters most.

Stay tuned as we continue introducing The People Behind the Power—the team members who help make reliable backup power possible.
