The People Behind the Power: Meet Dalten Lane

Power is only as strong as the team behind it.

At GenServe, reliable backup power is made possible by people who understand what’s at stake when the power goes out. Our People Behind the Power series introduces the team members whose experience, expertise, and commitment help keep our customers ready when it matters most.

Meet Dalten Lane, a member of GenServe’s equipment sales team serving customers throughout Central Texas.

Dalten has spent nearly nine years in the backup power industry, but sales isn’t where his career began. He started in the field as a service technician after looking for something his previous jobs couldn’t offer: room to grow.

“I needed a job that gave me an opportunity to grow,” Dalten says. “I had bounced around odd jobs because there was no growth trajectory.”

Nearly nine years later, that decision has grown into a career.

From Service Technician to Equipment Sales

Today, Dalten handles equipment sales throughout Central Texas, helping customers purchase new backup power equipment and managing equipment sales projects that include installation.

His background as a service technician gives him a valuable perspective when approaching those projects. He understands the equipment, the complexities behind backup power systems, and the importance of finding the right solution for each customer’s application.

For many of the customers Dalten works with, the question isn’t whether backup power is important. They’ve already evaluated the potential costs and consequences of losing power.

His role is to help answer the next question:

What’s the right backup power solution for our needs?

“I just try and help them find the best solution for their needs,” he says.

It’s a straightforward approach grounded in nearly a decade of hands-on industry experience.

When Power Isn’t Negotiable

Our modern world depends on electricity. And for many of the facilities and organizations GenServe supports, an interruption in power can quickly become much more than an inconvenience. That’s why keeping critical power systems ready isn’t something that happens only during normal business hours.

“It is a 24/7 endeavor,” Dalten says. “My phone rings all times of the day or night. Our customers need power and it is not negotiable.”

When utility power goes down and an emergency power system doesn’t perform as expected, the response becomes all hands on deck. That urgency is something customers may never see when everything is working as it should—but it’s a major part of what happens behind the scenes at GenServe.

“If our preparedness or our response time for these outages is lacking in anyway, we lose customers,” Dalten says. “Simple as that.”

For Dalten, selling backup power equipment is about more than the equipment itself. It’s about helping customers put dependable solutions in place for the moments when they need them most.

Beyond GenServe

Outside of work, Dalten enjoys a different kind of learning. While he admits to “geeking out” over the intricacies of the backup power industry, that curiosity extends beyond generators. He’s an avid reader of history books and enjoys spending time listening to audiobooks while working around the yard.

Dalten also has an interest that might surprise some of his coworkers: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He practiced the martial art before taking a break following the birth of his daughters.

These days, his ideal Saturday is centered around spending time with family. It might start with taking the kids to the park, followed by coffee with his wife. If time allows, he’ll squeeze in a workout, tackle a few projects around the yard while listening to an audiobook, and finish the day with an evening walk with his wife.

For Dalten, it’s the simple things that make for a great day.

Finding a Career Worth Growing In

When Dalten entered the backup power industry nearly nine years ago, he was looking for a career that would give him somewhere to go. What he found was an industry that kept giving him more to learn.

“I’m proud of what I do,” he says. “I enjoy the fact there is a critical need and I get to find solutions for people for the need.”

And somewhere along the way, what began as a practical career decision became a genuine interest.

“It’s a field I never suspected I would find so interesting,” Dalten says. “When I started to learn about all the intricacies of this industry, I geeked out.”

From learning the equipment as a service technician to helping customers select and implement backup power systems today, Dalten found the growth opportunity he was searching for—and a career he could take pride in.

Thank you, Dalten, for bringing your technical experience, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to customers to GenServe and the communities we serve across Central Texas.

Stay tuned as we continue introducing The People Behind the Power—the team members who help make reliable backup power possible.
