Ice Storm puts Senior Residents at Risk
ISSUE:
February’s unexpected ice storm caused an extended power outage in Pennsylvania, and though most independent and assisted living facilities have their own emergency back-up generators, some found they were not sufficient to handle the demand exacerbated by low temperatures.
SOLUTION:
A well-known Senior Living Community in Media, PA, found that their interior temperatures were dropping to dangerous levels, despite their ability to tap into their existing generators. GenServe supplied and connected two temporary industrial generators that enabled the facilities’ skilled nursing and assisted living facilities to run at full power ensuring the most vulnerable seniors were safe and warm. Facility staff were then able to fill the dining room with cots to provide warmth and comfort to the 100 independent living residents.
More than 550 residents and staff were able to ride out the storm and power outage in relative comfort.
